Axe murder case is postponed for plea

2019-08-29 06:01

Murder accused Morris Nyamandi again made a brief appearance in the Strand Regional Court on Tuesday 27 August.

The Zimbabwean national is accused of killing his girlfriend and mother of his children, Andiswa Zide (26), earlier this year (“Killed by loved ones”, City Vision, 14 February). The young mother was allegedly hacked to death in a backyard shack in Saphepha Street in the early hours of Saturday 9 February.

It is believed Nyamandi also severed one of the victim’s legs, leaving the victim’s four-year-old child and the couple’s three-month-old baby with their mother’s mutilated body, before running from the scene. Earlier this week, Nyamandi arrived in court dressed in a blue- tracksuit top and navy blue trousers, and sporting a new hairstyle. His once shaven head now boasts small dreadlocks.

Though his appearance was brief, he was informed he will be expected to plea at his next appearance. The case was postponed to Monday 16 September.

None of the victim’s family members were in court.
