Boys and girls of Mzamomhle Primary School were victorious over the weekend, after winning the Best of the Best is the Hoops 4 Hope School League basketball tournament.

The tournament featired u.14 boys and girls teams from Philippi, Nyanga and Gugulethu.

Hoops 4 Hope is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that uses sport to teach life skills in the HIV and Aids leadership curriculum called “seven tools of championing your life to become a better citizen”.

Programme manager Thabo Marotola said the organisation was established in 1995 to collect used playing uniforms and give them to participants.

The finals were played in a round-robin format and Mzamomhle did not lose a game and ended up winning the tournament.

He said they had 150 children participating and that the coaches of the school helped to make it a success.

He said the coaches are also the “products” of the same programme.

Marotola said it was nice to see children in a safe and learning environment.

They also showed that sport can change lives.
