A young lady from Khayelitsha is hoping that her dream of becoming a beauty queen will come true.

This is despite being eliminated in the late stages of the Miss Commonwealth Teen recently.

Makhaya’s Ziyanda Leballo, 17, said she will not stop entering pageants till she wears the crown and won’t let disappointments get her down.

“I was a great experience for me as I learnt a lot about pageants and it opened my eyes to community development. As part of the contest you have to focus on a community project that you can assist in.

Along with a friend of mine, Hlali Bhele, we have started collecting clothes which we will donate to orphanages; we are not going to stop that project even though I have been eliminated in the contest,” she said.

The aspiring model is a grade 12 student at Witteboom High and has already recovered from the setback.

“I have also entered the Miss Cape Town Teen competition and I’m hoping that I can do better than the top 40 finalist that I managed in the last competition.

My hope is to get noticed for what I do and I also hope to get people to support me as SMS votes play a key role in the Miss Teen Cape Town contest,” she said.

She has also called on the public to assist her in her bid to continue community work by making donations to her initiative.

Leballo said that she was planning to study arts after matriculating and continue with modelling.

“I want to study drama, a career that I’m really interested in and also continue with what I’m currently doing as the main objective of all this is to became Miss South Africa eventually,” she said.

She said that her role model is the last Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene for not just her beauty.

“I love the way that she carries herself, her composure and her poise. She really inspires me.

I want to study drama, but my main goal is to become became Miss Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, Her beauty and the way she carries herself,” she said.
