Beware of “jewellery” thieves

2016-03-03 06:00

Khayelitsha residents have been warned to be on the lookout for new tricksters in the area.

Harare SAPS have alerted residents in their policing precinct that the culprits acts as gold collectors in a bid to get access into houses.

“Their modus operandi is that they approach the occupants of the house pretending to be trading in jewellery in exchange for cash, then they produce a firearm and start robbing house owners.

The common items they are targeting are flat screen TVs and cellphones. In all the cases that were reported to the police they were operating in a group of three,” said spokesperson Lieutenant Siyabulela Vukubi.

He said that one of the robbers is suspected to be a coloured male ‘very light in complexion’.

“The vehicle they were using is a white Toyota Avanza with unknown registration number.

Police are requesting the community to be more vigilant. Keep the doors always locked even during the day,” he warned.

He urged residents not to open the door for anyone before confirming who is outside the door.

He also urged those who suspect illegal activity in the area to contact Harare SAPS at 021 363 9000/14/15/34 or 10111
