LETTER: Beware of ‘oomasingcwabane’

2016-04-14 06:00

The story on page 1 last week (“I lost R10 000 for R30’) City Vision 07 April 2016 refers.

It pains me to read such articles; our people are losing their hard-earned cash at the hands of unscrupulous association heads trying to save for the funeral expenses of their loved ones, only to find out that when the cash is needed, they have outstanding dues.

Would it not be better if the societies updated their members by some form of communication, e.g buy sms bundles and inform or remind them of their arrears.

This is not the first I have read about such an issue and definitely not the last.

People must look for reputable companies or institutions, as it seems to be a common problem with our community based societies that people must experience such problems when they have to claim their monies. A lot of people drop out of these societies because of the dissatisfaction caused by reasons of non-payment. What happens to the money already contributed?
