South Africa’s annual beer festival Tops at Spar Bierfest was launched in Cape Town last Friday.

The Tops at Spar Bierfest is voted the next big thing to the historic Oktoberfest, the Bavarian beer chapter, which is held in Munich Germany.

This year’s Bierfest will showcase a rejuvenated look in new venues whilst keeping all the key elements that make the annual event spectacular.

The Cape Town leg of the event will be held on 28 and 29 September at the GrandWest for the first time.

Tickets start from R175 to R1 022 per person.

Tops at Spar’s Arnold Beneke said they have been part of the event for the past eight years.

“We have been the main sponsor for the event for the past eight years. We are very proud and happy to be part of this, it is a fantastic event to sponsor,” he said.

He said the festival coincides with Munich festival and that people should expect great fun good food and to meet new people.

Tops at Spar will partner with Cape Brewing Company (CBC) for the first time this year.

CBC’s brew master Wolfgang Koedel said as a craft brewer they find the festival amazing and are grateful to Tops at Spar for giving them a chance to showcase craft beer.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase our craft brewing skills, we needed this opportunity to show our customers our beer,” said Koedel.

He added that it is the first time that an independent craft brewery provides beer for the festival.
