With less than a month to go, preparations are in full swing for athletes competing in some of the biggest bodybuilding and fitness shows in South Africa – right here in the northern suburbs.

Kevin Schwartz (Bellville) is building a reputation for creating some of the biggest shows in the country with prize money that was unheard of a few years ago.

Schwartz is looking to start the year with a bang, introducing the first ever Conrad Nagel Xtreme Classic to be held at Durbanville High School Auditorium on Saturday 25 March.

The show is being dubbed “the ultimate showdown for the novice athlete” at the recent seminar held for giving newcomers insightful hints and tips as well as correct posing techniques to impress the judges.

“The outcome was overwhelming with over 50 people attending,” he says. “That doesn’t sound like much, but seasoned athletes are not going to attend something like this. It is exciting to see a new age of athlete being created with loads of new faces and I am very positive that 2017 is going to be our best year yet as BBFSA (Body Building and Fitness South Africa).

“There are 19 different novices divisions and 22 open divisions, ensuring there is a place for all aspiring athletes to show their physiques.”

Conrad Nagel is arguably one of the most prolific bodybuilders South Africa has ever produced. Nagel won numerous titles between 1992 and 2010.

He won several provincial shows and also competed on the world stage.

“I placed third in 1997 at the WPF Mr Universe in Italy. One of the highlights of my career was placing third in the 2009 World Championship in Qatar in the middleweight division.

“I am honoured and humbled at the same time to have my name associated with a show. Kevin Schwartz is one of the most respected promoters in the industry and I am very excited that this show will be a huge success. The response has been nothing short of remarkable. Bodybuilding is my sport and my passion and I love being able to contribute,” says Nagel.

The bodybuilding and fitness communities eagerly await 25 March.

“We at BBFSA always said we wanted to create the ultimate platforms for athletes, and I firmly believe we are doing just that. When you introduce a new show it normally takes a few years for it to grow in stature, but the Conrad Nagel Xtreme Classic is going to be massive from the get go,” explains Schwartz.
