Bomb suspect appears in court

Thulani Tayela (31), who was arrested after he was apparently found in possession of a petrol bomb in May, appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 14 August.

The father of two briefly appeared and heard from the state prosecutor that the investigation was still “incomplete”.

Magistrate Pearcey Botha postponed the case to Wednesday 28 August for further investigation and for the accused’s legal representative to “come on record”.

The state said there still “aerial photography”, which forms part of the investigation. outstanding.

At a previous appearance, Tayela had admitted through his attorney that he had another public violence matter pending against him.

Tayela’s arrest came just a few days before the petrol-bombing of Ikhwezi Clinic at the end of May.

In the affidavit read in court previously, Tayela had said he has no knowledge of the petrol bomb claimed to be in his possession and denied he had been carrying it.

He had indicated he would plead not guilty to the charge and was granted R500 bail.
