Award-winning musician Gloria Bosman will perform at Guga S’thebe Theatre in Langa on Sunday.

She will be performing with young Cape Town musicians as part of the Jazz in the Native Yards sessions.

The band is made up of Ludwe Mafani, Lonwabo Mafani, Revan October and Griffin Maarman.

She said her performance will be honouring women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956.

Bosman said she cannot wait to perform in Langa.

“It is long overdue especially looking at how many of my colleagues and musical influences are from Langa.

“We are way past those times when jazz music was more available in the suburban areas. Present structures have become more inclusive and flexible. Let us take advantage of these opportunities and positively exploit them, not forgetting that real audiences also come from these locations.”

She will be performing her old and new songs and will be going through time, touching different times and colours of her original contributions.

Bosman said in her performance she will be honouring the brave women who marched in 1956.

“The women who marched changed the fate of women. We celebrate them. Going into the jazz scene as a woman has always been a challenge as it is male dominated. In the spirit of wanting to be respected without being belittled on bases of gender, we celebrate how far we’ve come,” said Bosman.

Bosman has two South African Music Awards and two KORA nominations.

Her performance will start at 16:00 on Sunday 12 August and tickets are available at R120 and R80 for pensioners and students at the door.
