Manzomthombo high school is among other schools participating in the Inter- Region Top Schools Netball Tournament to be held at Langhoven High School in Riversdale.

Now the school is making an appeal to the community to support them in search of their dream to become champions on Saturday.

Netball Coach and educator Frank Xaba, said he is pleading with Good Samaritans to nail their deeds on the mast by helping his charges achieve this feat.

“We don’t necessarily need cash ... Even a voucher to buy food will be appreciated. As everybody knows, ours is a no fee school, we struggled to raise funds for events.”

Xaba said two of their teams have qualified for the tournament.

“Three teams participated in the Inter-District Top Schools Netball tournament that was held at De Kuilen High School in Kuilsriver last Saturday.

“These were the u.15, u.16 and the u.19. The first lost in the finals and the u.16 went on an automatic qualification, because there were no opponents to play against. The u. 19 played to qualify,” he said.

Xaba said the school has won the National Top Schools Netball Tournament four times in a row.

“For the last four years the u.16 and u.19 have been champions before, with only the u.15 becoming runners up last year,” he said.

Sikhanyiso Mtshwepe (17), the u.19 captain, has assured supporters that they will not disappoint.

“The spirits are high in the team and everyone is ready for the tournament. There is no way that we can lose it. We want to put our school on the map as the best school in netball,” said Mtshwepe.
