Christmas came early for the elderly at Sinovuyo Old Age Home in Khayelitsha, what with being gifted with goodies.

The home was established in 2015 and presently has 51 members.

Buyelwa Bomela, the owner of Mhonko Waste and Security Services said she had decided to take time to spend the day with the golden oldies, who she had bought the presents for.

”I love the elderly and it is my wish to always make them happy,” she said.

She said even though she had lost her mother last year, that didn’t make her forget about other older people.

“Elderly people don’t need much than love and care.

The fact that I don’t have a mother doesn’t mean I can’t take care of others, because even if they didn’t give birth to me, they are still my mothers.”

Before handing the presents over to them, they were offered food.

Bomela said it shouldn’t be difficult to help senior citizens as “we are where we are because of them.”

“You don’t have to be a relative to someone in order for you to help them, and these people brought us in this world ... that is why it was easy for me to buy these Christmas presents for them.” Bomela added.

Tina Mcewan,73, said it was rare to see kids taking care of people they don’t even know.”

“This is a blessing, because she was not forced to buy these presents for us. She doesn’t even know us, it was the first time meeting her,” said Mcewan.

She said that it shows that Bomela is coming from a good family and she was raised well.

“I’m very happy that we got these presents because most people have been asking what we are getting from the home and I always tell them that we get love,” she added.

Agnes Magoda,74, said they will forever be grateful to Bomela for choosing them.
