Businesswoman Buyelwa Mhonko Godze has offered to provide coffins for two people who died in a shack fire.
Seven people burnt to death in a shack fire in Kraaifontein, Cape Town on Thursday.
Thenjiwe (51), Bongiwe (25), Akhanya (8), Milani (3) and Lena Mankayi (8), as well as Isivile Mkhizwana (8) and an unidentified friend all died in the fire.
Family members believe the fire was either started on purpose or was caused by vutha.
The heartbroken relatives said they didn’t know where to begin with funeral preparations, as they had no money.
Buyelwa Mhonko, the owner of Mhonko’s Waste Management and Security Services, said she was saddened by what happened to the family.
“It is painful to hear how the family died.
“Those deaths could have been avoided.
“Adults must always be sober when they use stoves and gas.
“While holding our government accountable, let’s be cautious.
“A lack of service delivery must never be the reason for us to be irresponsible.
“Let’s join hands and put an end to these careless deaths,” said Buyelwa.
She promised to donate two coffins to the family.
“It’s not much, but it will make a difference.”
Andile Meje, who lost his eight-year-old daughter Isivile in the fire, said: “This is so painful.
“It is unbelievable.
“I’m still shocked.
“None of us is employed and those who died in the fire weren’t on any funeral plan.”
