Mzantsi has a new president after lengthy, behind the scenes negotiations with former president Zuma.

We are pleased to announce that Cyril Ramaphosa has taken the helms of this somewhat and sometimes thorny seat. He promises to deliver like many presidents before him. He seems to have earned the respect of the people in Parliament, even that of Juju. This strange relationship between the red army and the president leaves one wondering how long the honeymoon is going to last, as we know how the opposition is vocal on issues.

It has been a long while since we have seen a peaceful SONA and only the president delivering his speech. Maybe everyone was taken in by the efficiency with which C.R promises to run his government.

We will wait and see.

All I can read from this is that C.R comes into power untainted by corruption, so that is why there has been no adverse reaction to his ascendancy of the high office in the land.

He has played his cards well in the face of J.Z’s shenanigans. He seems to have won the heart of both sides of the House. Come to think of it, our country was becoming somewhat of a joke.

The only thing that was holding it together was that people respected the sitting president and he was getting the backing from his ministers. If politics were a normal way of life, where conscientiousness reigned, we wouldn’t have endured years of political stagnation low intellectual discourse.

Some who spoke against the prevailing status quo suffered the ignominy of being kicked out of positions.

Some even left the party as a result of the public humiliation suffered for speaking truth to power.

It is hoped that C.R has learnt a valuable lesson from his predecessor(s) in that he will become a great president. As can be seen, he is a darling in some circles. But, can he keep his promises?

Will he lead and unite his fragmented party? Can he bring hope and prosperity to the downtrodden who have yet to see the benefits of democracy. Or, will he lead and maintain the status quo of the elite. Uthunyiwe ke Cyril!
