Inga Mafenuka (23) from Khayelitsha celebrated the first birthday of the Cape Quads at the KFM studios today (Wednesday 10 July).

Mafenuka gave birth to the quadruplets on Friday 6 July 2018 through a Caesarean section after 29 weeks of pregnancy and weighed 980g, 1 010g, 830g and 1 030g respectively.

They were hospitalised in Tygerberg Hospital, but were discharged after weighing 2 040g, 1 770g, 1 580g and 1 980g.

The first-time mom to Bungcwele Yamihle, Buchule Luhlelo, Bubele Kwakuhle, Bunono Oluhle, says it’s been a rollercoaster ride.

She says some of the babies are happier while some are much grumpier.

“Dealing with four personalities is draining and I don’t get that much sleep,” she says.

The celebrations didn’t just stop there; Community Chest donated R35 000 towards a bursary for Mafenuka’s studies.

Community Chest spokesperson Desiré Goliath says it takes a village to raise a child - or four in this instance.

“We are part of that village and we want to help you improve yourself and better yourself,” says Goliath.

Mafenuka is studying towards a national diploma in information technology.
