Last week a vehicle transporting money was recovered in Langa after it went missing in Epping.

According to Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase the Hawks National Bureau for Illegal Firearms Control and Priority Violent Crime arrested a 32-year-old suspect on Friday 26 July for an alleged armed robbery.

He said the investigation linked the suspect to a cash-in-transit heist that occurred at Bayside Food Centre, in Epping on Thursday 25 July.

Nkwalase said the security crew collected cash at the centre and on their return, the armoured vehicle was missing.

He said the vehicle was recovered later at Noxolo Street in Langa and the driver was unharmed.

An undisclosed amount of cash and his firearm were taken.

He said the driver recounted that he was approached by three suspects who threatened him with explosives and they allegedly disarmed him before instructing him to drive to a location where they offloaded and undisclosed amount of money before they fled the scene.

He added that the suspect was to appear at the Goodwood Magistrate’s court on Monday 29 July on charges of armed robbery.
