Change grant payment dates

2017-07-27 06:01

The department of Social Welfare is failing its beneficiaries by paying grants on the first day of each month.

There is a huge risk involved in making these huge pay-outs on a single day. In this instance, I find it apt that the department should split the payment dates to fall in line with other sectors of society.

Currently in South Africa, we have people who receive their salaries on either 1, 15, 20, 25, 27 of every month. Why does the department not follow this trend. By so doing, long queues will be eliminated and the associated risk of robberies will be eliminated.

Our malls will not overflow with customers, thus inviting criminality. It is a fact that on these payment dates unsavoury elements are hard at work trying to deprive citizens of their hard earned wages.

We always see them stalking potential victim at malls. They prey on the innocent and security guards are unable to detect these criminal activities as they are busy manning lines.

That is why our police need to be deployed in a visible manner on payment dates at these malls.

This can serve as a deterrent for any criminal activity.

Should SASSA wish to engage me, they are more than welcome to contact me.
