Delgado Chiropractic announced the launch of the first chiropractic practice in Khayelitsha last week.

This launch will address a need for specialised, accessible spinal care for local residents struggling with chronic back pain among other spine-related ailments.

This is according to Dr Zandile Twala, the registered chiropractor who will be heading up this practice, who says that there is a real need for natural spinal care in the community.

She points out that many local residents struggle with debilitating conditions such as low back pain, headaches and neck pain and have no idea that there is a natural drug free solution available. “These patients are often given an excessive amount of pain killers, which is not a viable long-term solution.”

Our goal is therefore not only to provide access to affordable spinal care but also to educate the community on the benefits of chiropractic care and a healthy lifestyle, she says.

Dr Twala adds that emotional stress such as trauma and poor nutrition – which is extremely common in the area - are known as chronic stressors which cause the spine to stiffen.

“This leads to the inflammation of the nerves traveling from the spine to various parts of the body and can cause chronic pain and poor health. Through chiropractic care and education we aim to naturally improve the health of the community without the use of medications or surgery.”

She adds that the practice can claim directly from the patient’s medical aid for chiropractic treatment and that patients can expect a reduction of up to a 60% on regular chiropractic fees.

“We have placed great focus on affordability to ensure that all patients can have access to the healthcare they deserve.”

At this stage, many local residents who suffer from back pain have to visit a general practitioner (GP) who will then refer them to a specialist, explains Dr Twala.

“This is an expensive and time consuming process which often requires a lot of travelling and does not always yield lasting results.

Rather than pain medication, chiropractic care is a healthy and sustainable solution to spinal injury and back pain.

“The practice is located inside the Graceland Pharmacy in the KCT mall and residents can contact us for an appointment on 021 3611 8934 ,” concluded Dr Twala.
