Congregants at the World Harvest Christian Ministries Church in Langa concluded Heritage Month activities in style.

Held at the Johnson Ngwevela Hall on Saturday, mouth watering traditional food, the likes of umngqusho, umphokoqo, umxhaxha, umfino, smiley, tripe and pap, were there to tantalise the palate.

Bishop Lucas Mnqantsa described the event as part of remembering their roots and celebrating various cultures within the church.

Each church member was free to don their respective traditional garb, in an attempt to remember their backgrounds, said Mnqantsa.

Mnqantsa was adamant that churches have to play a central role in uniting society.

“Next year, we intend to make it bigger than this ... We will invite everyone, including izangoma to come and witness the power that churches have to influence and change our societies,” he offered.

Mnqantsa used the occasion on Saturday to educate them about ubuntu and upholding the values and ethics that they were brought up with in their families.

Church commissioner Vuyiswa Mbadlisa said the event encourages them to learn about their roots.

“Today, we are trying to revive ubuntu in our societies,” she added.
