Over 200 members of the Anglican Church attended the 14th annual commemoration two weeks ago in Mfuleni.

This was hosted by the St. Bernard Mizeki Men’s Guild (BMMG) of Diocese of False Bay at the St. Manche Masemola in Mfuleni.

John Bulani, the church’s spokesperson, said more than 10 parishes from the province attended the event.

“The two-day event had an impressive turn-out from clergy within the diocese including the Diocese of Saldanha Bay.

Bulani said this year’s celebration was themed “For we are partners working together for God” – 1 Corinthians Chapter 2 verse 9.

He said in a discussion about homosexuality within the church guild members expressed different concerns on the issue.

He said Reverend Lundi Joko and Reverend Luleka Nyhila took it upon themselves to come up with educational material to empower members of the guild to understand more about the issue.

Bulani said the members will also be taught to accept those within the lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community. Reverend Stafford Moses in his presidential address called upon members to refrain from factionalism and start putting interests of the guild as a priority.

“In line with our theme this year we must establish good working relations with both clergy and our sister organisation in order to ensure the guild serves its aims,” said Moses.
