The youth group belonging to a church in Gugulethu took to the streets to voice their concerns over the recent spate of rape and killing of young woman.

The youth of the United National Baptist church stood at the Gugulethu Seven memorial carrying placards.

One of the organisers of the march, Bongani Lamani said they are trying to give support to the people who are suffering from rape and those that have their family members killed.

“We are saying they are not alone in whatever they are going through,” he said.

Lamani said they also encourage those that are going through whatever type of abuse to come out and share their pain so something can be done.

He said they also saying to mothers because fathers most of the time are breadwinners that does not mean they must be quiet when they abuse their children.

He said the community of Gugulethu were touched and proud of what they were doing because most times people say churches are quiet about such issues.

“The parents that were there were happy to see the youth showing support to victims and saying enough is enough,” said Lamani.

He said they interacted with parents who were interested in what they were doing and hope it will help the fight against abuse so people can live happily.

Lamani encouraged churches to take a stand in this fight.
