The curtain came down in a spectacular fashion for the season’s finale of the Mandela Park Local Football Association (LFA) on Saturday, with four clubs vying for the second available spot in the LFA’s premier division.

Black Stars, Young Eagles, Tip Top and Masakhane F.C, all plying their trade in the Super League division were looking to join African Sporting in the Premier Division. However, it was Masakhane that emerged victorious, after beating African Sporting 2-0. In other matches played on the day Tip Top nailed Cape City 3 -0 while Royal Citizens and Mobs Academy drew 0-0.

The clubs will now head into a four month interval before the start of the new season in March next year.

Zola Sizani, president of the LFA, said the interval gives them time to recoup and examine mistakes made in the season.

He described the season as “hectic”, although they had many things to be proud off.

Their success includes acquiring sponsorship. He said the aim is to make the LFA and soccer in the area interesting.

“We really want to do more and fix all the wrongs of the past,” he said. Among others, he said they intended to address the ongoing age cheating to promote fair play.

Sizani said twice teams from the LFA were kicked out of important tournaments.

“It is important that we address the issue of cards,” he said. “We need to clean our house first. It is embarrassing when your teams are disqualified for age cheating.”
