Community radio coming

2017-05-04 06:00

A group of brave community transformation agents formed the LaGuNya Community Radio Station at the beginning of 2014 in response to the lack of community radio in the areas of Langa, Gugulethu, Nyanga and the surrounding areas.

It is common knowledge that these townships are the oldest African communities in Cape Town and face multitude problems in terms of community development.

Although we have achieved political liberation at national level, real and noticeable change and transformation has not filtered down to the people of these areas.

The LaGuNya Community Radio Station initiative has taken upon itself to restore the pride and dignity of these communities.

This community radio station will serve as the voice and mouth piece of the people on the ground.

It exists on its or in partnership with any of the existing community radio stationS.

As a registered NPO, it is going to focus on issues affecting the communities it serves, more specially the marginalised communities.

It is going to be a talk radio with cultural entertainment element like music from the legends and the upcoming artist of these areas, will serve as a religious platform for the word of God, health and social developments, education and small business.

It has board members and area coordinators from all the communities it will serve.

We urge the people to support this initiative to make sure that these areas are not treated as the second best.

LaGuNya Radio also strives to push the content of our communities and be the voice with an ear on the ground.
