Efforts by Nyanga police to root out crime in the area yielded positive results when a 22-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday 20 August for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Patience Sitshitshi said the suspect was arrested around 06.45 during a random police search on Klipfotein Road.

He had a 9mm pistol with eight live rounds. “It was hidden under the driver’s seat.

“The fire arm’s serial number was filed off,” she said.

The suspect is expected to appear in Athlone magistrates court on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm.
