Cosatu has lost the plot

2015-12-03 06:00

The Cosatu leadership is weak and visionless.

This is due to the fact that it has wasted its time and energy focusing on the power struggles within the ANC instead of labour matters.

Now it’s paying dearly for that. Last week, the union federation held its elective conference. The last time it held an elective conference the leadership was elected unopposed. Interestingly, the same thing happened this time around. Is there democracy within the organisation? Are there no other ambitious comrades who want to take the organisation forward?

This begs the question: why did the federation bother to hold an elective conference if the same people were going to be re-elected? It was just a waste of time, money and resources. Clearly delegates were there to rubber stamp the leadership that was unofficially elected long before the conference. What is the leadership going to do that it has failed to do in the past? You can’t have the same people as leaders and expect different results. That’s insane. Ask the people of Zimbabwe. They’ll tell you.
