Following the success of the 2018 Debut Gala concert, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is spreading the net wider and bringing together more of the wealth of performers this city can offer.

The concert, under the direction of Brandon Phillips, takes place at Artscape Opera on Sunday 17 February, at 18:00, and is supported by the City of Cape Town.

Dan Plato, Executive Mayor of Cape Town, said: “Having heard about the major success of last year’s event, I am really looking forward to seeing what the Cape Town Philharmonic have put together for us this year. We have such a diversity of world class performers, I definitely won’t be missing it, and I hope to see the rest of Cape Town there too.”

Louis Heyneman, CEO of the CPO, says that last year’s concert was an incredible success.

“We are looking forward to a repeat of the packed Artscape Opera House standing up and shouting for more as they heard what a symphony orchestra can do to enhance the brilliance of these young artists.”

On the line-up this year, and performing with a symphony orchestra for the first time, are Idols winners Yanga Sobetwa (17) and Thato Makape (23) who will sing solo and in a duet. Other acts include the Jazzart, Township Opera, singers Karin Kortje and Elizabeth du Toit, keyboard artist Camillo Lombard and saxophonist Donvino Prins. Jordan Brooks(15), the young concertmaster will also be performing.
