A 27-year-old man from the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi East has been arrested after he allegedly raped five children from his neighbourhood.

The man was arrested on Saturday after the community reported the matter to the police, said the local police spokesperson Lieutenant Bheki Xulu.

“The man was arrested after police followed up on information that the suspect allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulted a group of young girls. The victims were between the ages of 5 and 11 years old,” said Xulu.

The man appeared in court on Monday has remained in custody and investigations are continuing.

. The Langa community is mourning the death of Ntokozo Mkhize aged 16, who was stabbed more than 20 times on 19 November Saturday.

Yesterday a fully packed memorial service was held at the Methodist Church.
