LETTER: Crumbs from boardrooms, pulpits, won’t solve problems

2016-11-24 06:01

Our primary contradiction is not poverty that can be fixed by grants or the minimum wage.

Our primary contradiction is White power and the preservation of White privilege.

We are not poor, just that our wealth is in the hands of the oppressor. Give us back our land and the ownership of all the means of production, then we won’t have to worry about employment and minimum wage.

In the same way some of us reject the Freedom Charter as a document produced by Whites for Whites, we reject all other instruments of civility that turn us into self-policing and self-hating, law abiding slaves.

We reject parliament, we reject the commissions, we reject the courts, we reject the flag, we reject the national anthem, and we reject the constitution and the Bill of Rights that reduces the Black cause to rights.

We have a stand-off with Whiteness, so we reject piecemeal solutions. They want us to accept that: “ucuntsu akafani no cwaka”, as mediated out of boardrooms and pulpits.
