Members of Africa New Generation Global Youth Development organisation from Island in Philippi are appealing to the community to assist them with sports equipment for their children.

The founder of the organisation, Siyabulela Dlanga, said they are struggling to get all the equipment as they are not sponsored.

He described the organisation as one that comprises of the arts, culture, sports and recreation.

He said their objective is to take children away from the streets.

“There is high rate of drugs and alcohol abuse in the area.

“So, by establishing the organisation we are trying to motivate and mould them to be better people for the future.

“We do drama, dance and play soccer and netball. But our challenge ... We don’t have a kit and drums for dance group.

“We are appealing to any Good Samaritan to sponsor us or even if it’s an old kit that people are not using, we will appreciate it,” said Dlanga.

He said whenever they have to perform, they have to dig from their pockets.

“Sometimes we struggle to get the community hall for practice, because we have to pay,” he said.

Member Lisa Gaqazela said she wished they could secure bongo get drums for their group. The organisation is targeting children between 10 and 17 years old.
