Young children taking part in Izithole Debate and Life Orientation Campaign were rewarded last Saturday.

According to the founder of the campaign, Anathi ‘Dee’ Mahamba, their aim is to keep children busy with empowering activities after school.

“We started this in January when I noticed that truancy was rife in Site B,” he said.

He approached five primary schools in the area with proposals and the principals were keen.

“We are teaching these kids on life orientation, challenges they face in their lives.

Through the debate we are developing leadership skills, effective communication,” he said.

The campaign seeks to develop children’s knowledge and skills by developing them“holistically, physically, emotionally and mentally”.

“Their confidence was low but now they are good at what they do,” he added.

Facilitators Siyamamkela Ganjana, Sikelela Dwabicuba and Lungile Manyingiza said they have seen a lot of progress from the children..

A support teacher at one of the schools, Ms Veliswa agreed that the “input made by the campaign was worthwhile”.
