Sometimes I feel angry. I feel angry against the new oppressors - the new oppressors of our skin – our colour. I know some will say there is nothing like that. I am not waiting to be told what is, or what is not.

I’m saying it. That is why I am angry. I wouldn’t say that if I weren’t. There is something like a new oppressor. One-day stories will be written. One-day stories will be told. And they’ve started.

I don’t know whether you are listening. I don’t know whether you are reading books. You are buying books. Or you go to bookshops to peruse.

Or you waste your time in shebeens.

Drowning your sorrows. Not wanting to believe, because it is too painful to. Your kind can never be oppressors. They are good. I thought so too. But when you remember, it’s tough not to ignore.

This is Youth Month. The youth I know; are the youth that are not working. The youth I know have no father or mother. The youth I know live with a grandmother. And the grandmother is not working.

The youth I know; are poor. He is always on drugs. I’m afraid of him.

I don’t play next to him. The youth I know; has killed the people I know. I don’t know where to begin when it comes to why.

Why is it like that? Why are our youth like that? I don’t know where to begin. Maybe I do. Maybe it starts from greed. When our fathers stole from us. When our leaders, are killing for power.

Maybe it starts from there. Don’t tell me you are blind. Don’t tell me you don’t know leaders are killing for positions. Don’t tell me you don’t know about Prasa. The story of Prasa is the story of greed.

I don’t know much about Prasa. But I know what I know. I know what I get from the media. And the media is never wrong. Like it or not, it says it as it is. And the bread of the youth lies with Prasa.

It’s a big organization. It’s huge. It could engulf many youth. It could swallow them. But it can’t. It buys useless locomotives. And now they have to return them. I wonder whether they will be accepted.

Then there are planes to be bought. And some are using national planes as personal planes. It is all happening in front of you. And the youth are starving. They are mad. They are not working.

Happy belated Youth Day, my friend. I wonder what that happiness is.

Happy. And remember where you come from. Remember what the good ones wanted. And don’t close your eyes to the happenings of today. Stay positive.
