Schools will be closing soon. And kids will be on holiday. What will they be doing? They will be playing in the streets. And will be demanding Christmas clothes. That will be all. And early 2016 they will be back to school.

This is how we bring them up. We bring them up to be kids, and not creative human beings. This is a recipe for disaster. Nothing good will come out of this. Instead dependency will rule the roost, so to speak.

To be a creative human being you need to start young. Do things that most kids do not do. Plan a holiday trip. Go to Lesotho. Ascend Ukhahlamba on your own.

You may ask, “Where will I get the money to do all that?” Wrong question. The right question is; “How can I get the money to do all that?”

The dependency syndrome brigade would rather: “Who’s going to give me the money?”

‘How’ on the other side, is about you. You rely on you to come up with the money. Don’t bother others. Depend on yourself. Can’t you do that? Can’t you depend on yourself? I tell you most kids cannot.

They think what I’m saying is impossible. This old man is dreaming. But great things come from dreams. You see it in the mind and say, “Why not? I can do it!” There is excitement in doing what has not been done.

You come back a hero - maybe not a hero to others, but a hero to yourself. That’s okay. It’s no big deal. You are not there to please others. And you are not doing it for others. You are doing it for yourself.

You want to see how far can you go in life. You will find that if you adopt such an attitude, you can go far. You can do what most of your peers cannot do. And don’t be worried about them.

Don’t be worried that they are not in the same league as you. We cannot all be the same. Some will play in the streets. Others will be adventurous. Opt for the latter. Dare to dream. And do what most cannot do.

And if you think that is impractical, let me tell you a true story.

One day a young black woman decided to travel by bus to Ethiopia. She used local buses to travel all the way to Addis Ababa. She says along the way she made friends. In other words, she left her comfort zone: street parties. And went into the unknown. Can you do that? I bet you can if you set your mind to it. Stay positive.
