The Urban Rural Development and Capacity Building Project held its annual general meeting recently at the Red Cross Hall in Langa, Cape Town. This well attended AGM’s main objective was to give report on the milestones achieved in the year 2017 especially on the reflection of the auditor’s report, testimonies from some of the beneficiaries whose lives has been changed drastically by this NPO.

More than 20 beneficiaries who were trained in the year 2017 by Phezukomkhono Training Services were awarded with AgriSETA certificates of competency on Mixed Farming Skills Programme. Some of the beneficiaries received training on Unit Standards from Siyasanga Training Centre and others from Elgin Community College on Mixed Farming Systems. These destitute people now stand a good chance on applying for permanent jobs using the skills acquired during this training. Some of the guests who graced the occasion included Professor Linda de Vries from the University of the Western Cape who is the project advisor, Ms. Nandiswa Nyala from the Independent Development Trust, Mrs. Odrie Mdlalo from the Department of Public Works, Mr. Abel Mtebele from the Department of Social Services as well as the producer of one of the most popular religious shows on Umhlobo Wenene FM, Rev. Otto Makalima who gave a motivational talk on the day.
