MANY women suffer at the hands of men but don’t have a platform to speak out.

Keeping their problems bottled up can drive them to a state of stress or depression.

Angela Dlokweni (39) from Kuilsriver decided to form an organisation called Umngqungqo Wentokazi to deal with these challenges.

The businesswoman who is also is the founder of Endulo Music and Events, started the group in June with less than 40 members but now boasts a following of over 120 women.

“Women need a platform to air their problems. Some of these are very personal and can only be shared with other women.

“If women are not in a good space it affects society.”

She said women who have serious problems get professional counselling and support.

The women meet on the last Friday of the month at what she calls Girls’ Friday Night.

At their last session, they spent the entire night sharing their challenges.

“It has helped a lot of people and that’s why our group keeps growing.

“Women who get help end up inviting others to come. “Normally, we invite life coaches to address us. “These have been valuable sessions as they change lives.”

Besides abuse, the members discuss challenges in business to help each other overcome their problems.

Her group caters for women who are 25 or older, due to the sensitive issues they deal with.“I have been receiving calls from women younger than 25 who also want to join.

I’m looking forward to coming up with a programme which will cater for them,” said Angela.

She has also received calls from people in other provinces who want to join.
