Buti Manamela, deputy minister in the presidency, addressed pupils at a drug awareness imbizo in Crossroads on Monday.

“You cannot be users of drugs and alcohol and pursue your dreams. Drugs are very dangerous,” Manamela told pupils.

He asked the pupils to repeat a pledge: “We are kids. We cannot afford to have kids until we are someone in life who can make that decision.”

Manamela said he saw doctors, lawyers, engineers, electricians, members of parliament and the presidents of tomorrow in the crowd. He said he expected distinctions from the pupils.

Xolani Ghobela from the National Student Fund Aid Scheme told the pupils that the fund will help matrics who pass all subjects with level four and maths at level three.

“Just study hard and leave misleading friends who encourage you to do bad things. Then we will talk after that,” he said.

Azola Maquba from the National Youth Agency told to the pupils there are many colleges where they can go and get career advice, which will make things a bit easier. Skeem Saam actor Bongani Mandondo was the MC.
