Nomzamo High School received 100 stationery packs as a donation from Muslim Hands SA on Monday 14 January.

The packs will play a major role for learners who initially had to wait until the end of the month to get stationery from their parents.

Apart from much needed stationery, the packs also contain seven books to be handed to needy learners; some will also be distributed to learners who do well academically as a means of motivation.

Muslim Hands SA has formed a good relationship with the school after they refurbished the school’s library in 2017.

Arshad Ebrahim, programme coordinator for the organisation, told City Vision they had identified the school as one to can partner with for their social responsibility projects.

“We are a humanitarian NGO, so from time to time we give back to our communities through different projects. We first conduct assessments and see what we can assist with as an NGO,” he explained.

Ebrahim added they could not assist all learners, but he believes the packs will play a meaningful role to those fortunate to receive it. Though the organisation cannot guarantee annual help for the school, as they have to look to other schools, they will assist where they can.

Chris Mgubanto, Nomzamo High principal, thanked the Muslim Hands SA for the donation to the school “as it will address a need that is there”.

“As a school we are looking forward to working with them going forward in any way we can. For us ,this is a great initiative which does not only reward the school but the community at large,” said Mgubanto.
