We may be in the middle of autumn and winter is in the horizon, what with chilly mornings greeting us as we start our weekday slogs, but that does not stop others from displaying the warmness of their hearts.

Take the Gary Kirsten Foundation for starters. Last Thursday, they brought the warmth to Chris Hani, Siphamandla High, including to Masiphumelele, Mpendulo and Sivuyile Primary Schools in Khayelitsha, donating new cricket equipment.

Each school received three pairs of batting pads, six bats, six pairs of gloves, four batting grips and two protectors.

Sivuyile Mfunelwa, from the foundation said the objective is to create an environment conducive to sport and development.

“Our foundation, established in late 2015, donated the first cricket net to Chris Hani High School. Now we have donated the cricket equipment because we understand that some parents can’t afford to buy them for their children,” said Mfunelwa.

He said they chose the five schools for showing passion and commitment for the sport in the past few years.

Yongeza Mngxitama,17, a Grade 11 learner at Chris Hani, said the donation will encourage them to focus and improve their game to be able to get more sponsors.
