As part of community engagement, the City of Cape Town staff held a transversal project comprising Sub Council 9, Environmental Health, Fire and Rescue and Building Development Management.

The project was executed as a community outreach in Ward 116, at the Mandalay Community Centre, on 23 February 2018.

The objectives of this important exercise were to reach out to Early Childhood Development (ECD) operators and bring about Health and Safety awareness, compliance with health and safety requirements and empower them with knowledge with regard to ECD registration process.

Twenty three ECDs from Ward 116 attended the event, where they learnt about building, fire and hygiene measures to prevent the spread of diseases to children.

Finally they received mattresses, blankets, fire extinguishers and other critical items to help them come closer to meeting the requirements for registration.

This very successful project was possible thanks to a Ward allocation budget made available by Sub-council 09.
