Embarrassing state of affairs

2019-04-11 06:01

There were many reactions after the testimony of Agrizzi. Some are claiming to be shocked with what he has said.

I would like us to be realistic then reactionary. In SA bribery and corruption have become part of our daily activities. To get a job, house, drivers licence or TV licence, social grant, one must bribe an official.

If one is not willing to participate in the underworld rules of engagement he/she does not get anything not even a food parcel or doctor’s certificate.

The repercussions of this act of injustice are that the system is losing good public servants who are honest in doing their job.

And the worse scenario is that those who are poor are forced to indebted themselves to get the services or else remain poor if they can’t bribe.

Many car accidents occur because driving licences are sold like stock sweets. Roadworthy certificates are issued even in the absence of the vehicle being tested.

So we might act shocked or amused by the web of corruption happening on the national government or even point fingers.

Nothing will be corrected by the Zondo commission if our conscious is not purified to deal with what is in our immediate space of influence.

Now we need to ensure we develop skills and methods of holding each other accountable and in line with the ethics.

As the citizen, we have the duty to hold those whom we vote into power accountable. With that being said we also have to hold each other accountable.
