A touch rugby tournament will be hosted on Tuesday 24 September at the Charles Morkel Stadium in Strand. It comprises 16 teams that will battle it out for great prizes, including a cash prize of R2 000. The tournament is being sponsored by Euroberry and hosted by the management team of Targo Touch Rugby, which is raising funds for its team to participate in the In2Touch Hot Summer of Touch beach series that runs throughout the month of December. One of the organisers, Kyle Kannemeyer, said this will be the first touch rugby tournament hosted by Targo.“The idea we have is to establish it as an annual event that teams can look forward to,” he said. “We will present a floating trophy to winners with prize money, while other teams receive medals, spot prizes and many other surprises.”Kannemeyer added that, so far, eight teams have confirmed their participation and there are still places for eight more teams to enter.“We welcome teams from all over the Helderberg as well as other areas putting together teams of eight players; they should enter now while there’s still place,” he urged. “We promise a day of fun, excitement and competitive touch rugby.”On the day teams, spectators, families and rugby enthusiasts can expect blistering performances from participating teams. There will also be a jumping castle for children, food stalls, a cash bar and great music to entertain the crowd.Participating teams will receive complimentary refreshments. “If there are enough individuals who would like to play in a curtain raiser touch rugby match, such as a social match for old boys on the day, we will be able to arrange that. This will be played before the final on the day.”Spectators enter for free at the gate, but participating teams enter the tournament for R550. The event will start at 08:30 on Heritage Day at Charles Morkel Stadium. V For more information or to enter, phone Kannemeyer on 074 900 7500.
