Female cops ambushed

2016-07-07 06:00

Two female Provincial Traffic Services officers were shot and wounded by two suspects during a patrol in Harare, Khayelitsha, on Tuesday morning at about 11:30.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel attended to the injured officers on the scene and both have been admitted to the nearest hospital.

It is believed that while the officers were patrolling the area, people travelling in a Toyota Avanza started shooting at them. One of the officers was shot in the arm, and the other in the stomach. The Department of Transport and Public Works condemned this incident in the strongest possible terms. “We call on members of the public to come forward with information that may assist the police to identify and arrest the perpetrators. It is unacceptable that hardworking officials should be targeted in this manner as they execute their duties,” the statement said. The department said they will provide all the necessary support, and wishes the officials a speedy recovery.
