On Monday afternoon in Site C, B section, residents fought fierce fires aided by howling winds to try and save their belongings.

Nobody knows how it all started, but locals say it spread so fast because of the wind, they barely made it with their possessions.

Even as three fire trucks arrived within minutes, they soon ran out of water because of the blaze.

After the disaster, about 49 families had lost property and belongings.

In the aftermath of the fire, homeowners from Thembokwezi Residence Association took a resolution during a meeting to help the victims recover lost property.

“Society must come on board to help the victims and the children back to a normal life,”.

“Children have to go back to school and so need uniform and normal clothing.”

Kholekile Mwahla, from TRA requested a list of all school-going children to ensure that each child is bought a complete set of uniform to go to school in a dignified manner.

“This weekend, we have managed to mobilize resources from ordinary citizens of Cape Town and as far as Kuilsriver, Brentwood Park, Khayelitsha and Gugulethu.

Community activists such arrived to drop off clothing for the fire victims and others pledged more support for the effort.
