Gym fanatics are doing their best to put smiles on the faces of poor families in the Mfuleni community.

Sikhula Kunye Fitness academy was started in June 2019 by Luxolo Dukwana to bring exercise to the community of Mfuleni.

Dukwana says he offers his services to members free of charge. “I do not charge the members any money. All I ask from them every month is to bring food items or clothes to give to a family in need,” he said.

Dukwana said he saw the need to help in his community as not everyone can afford food and clothes.

He said it is his way of trying to help the government because they are doing their best but can’t help everyone.

Dukwana wants to open other branches in other townships and do the same. He would like to go around donating food and clothes collected by his members to poor families.

On Saturday 1 February the academy went to donate food to a family in Mfuleni.

Vuyiseka Dawethi (24) said as a family they are grateful to the academy for bringing them food because no one in their home has a job at the moment.

She said even their neighbours do not help them when they are in need.
