Residents and train commuters woke up to a find of four charred bodies near the Samora Machel railway line of Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the four were assaulted and then set alight by angry community members.

Police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said the four bodies were found on Tuesday morning near a railway line in Vlei, Sweet Home farm in the vicinity of Samora Machel.

She said the bodies were stacked on top of each other and burnt tyres were found around their, necks.

“Seemingly the victims were firstly assaulted before they were set alight, knobkerries and blood spatter were found near the shacks in Vlei in Samora Machel.

She said police appealed to the community to come forward with information about the suspects who had committed this gruesome act.

Sitshitshi said two of the men are believed to be in their late 20s, whereas the other two could not be ascertained.

“Police appeal to the community members to come forward with information about the suspects who had killed the victims so that they can be brought to book. No one has a right to take other people’s lives,” she said.

The residents were hesitant to speak to City Vision saying they do not want to be implicated in what had happened.

But one resident, who did not want to be named said he suspected that the four men had been implicated in a robbery in the community.

He said “the community would not hurt people for no reason, they must have done something(wrong).”

Another said he did not believe the four were from the area because they would have known not to rob anyone.
