Mgidlana said the accused had done a lot of damage prior to his arrest, threatening the child’s grandmother.

“He threatened to come back and kill the whole family,” he said.

Following the discovery of the boys’ lifeless body, deputy police minister Bongi Mkongi and the police top brass, including deputy provincial police commissioner, Mpumelelo Manci and head of detectives in the province Jeremy Veary, visited the family on Friday as well as the crime scene.

They expressed shock at the gruesome act by the accused.

A visibly emotional Mkongi said he was “emotionally hurt”. He accused the suspect of having “no respect for the child”.

“I am very hurt. Emotional is an understatement because I have seen the grave and how wide it was ... I asked which implements (did)this guy use to put that body there, so he had the effort and time. And when went up there, I saw a lot of dirt ... So this guy didn’t have respect for this young body and this child.

“So I am very angry,” said Mkongi, who later broke down and cried during a visit to the family.

Oyingcwele was buried in Idutywa, Eastern Cape, on Tuesday.

Philippi East police spokesperson Captain Bheki Xulu said the accused faces a charge of murder.

Bheki Xulu added that police were still waiting for the post mortem results.
