Members of the LGTBI community in the townships are invited to start the festive season with a bang.

This is because a Gugulethu events company is staging its first Gay and Lesbian Summer Picnic in the Newlands Forst on Saturday 2 December.

Event organiser Vuyani Jack , who managing his own company, said the aim is to create a safe and exclusive space for gays and lesbians.

“We don’t have many events in the LGTBI calender where people are celebrated and have fun, apart from the after parties during gay pride.

So we want to create an environment where people connect, network and get to know each other. There will be music, dancing, a drag show, fashion and food stalls,” he said.

He said that the event was not exclusive to the LGBIT community but those who are in support are welcome as well.

“We are inviting everyone as long as they will have a positive input to the event from community members to organisations as well as cooperates.

This will be a perfect opportunity to meet people and also expose brands to our community,” he said.

Jack said that the big event was a result of the small gathering he used to plan in his Gugulethu home.

“I have been hosting parties for years and I noticed that people love them so I decided to bring it to a bigger venue.

Even now, the response has been amazing. People from other provinces have started calling, its going to be a wonderful way to start the festive season,” he said.

Tickets for the event start from R70 for general, R350 for the VIP and are available from Computicket.
