“Despite what is happening in the City of Cape Town we will ensure that service delivery is not affected,”

These were the words of Ward 80 Proportional Representation Councillor Thulani Stemela, during the hand over of a new wheelchair to Gogo Nonini Boza from Brown’s Farm, Philippi last on Thursday.

He said as the City they will ensure that they fulfil their obligation to work with the community.

“As the City we prepared to continue working with all the communities and assist, especially needy people,” said Stemela.

Gogo Boza,85, expressed her gratitude to the City adding that the wheelchair will make her life easier to move around.

“I won’t bother my children anymore now. I will be able to move around and go outside to sit in the sun. I’m using crutches I can’t walk properly. My knees are sore even my legs can’t carry me anymore ... Age is catching up on me now,” said Boza.

Boza’s daughter Nomalungisa Funani said she wished her mother can get a proper house.

“I wish she can get a proper house to stay because for someone in her age, this area is not safe, especially when there are floods,” said Funani.

She said she is relieved now that her mother has received the wheelchair because she used to ask neighbours for help to carry her mother to the car when she is going to clinic because the car can’t come in.

“My mother started getting sick after my father died in 2014.

She became epileptic and then started limping and later both her legs couldn’t function properly,” said Funani.
