Greetings of the season

2018-12-13 06:01

It is that time of the year again when people ready themselves for a well deserved break with their loved ones.

Somehow it always comes as a shock when the month of December arrives and we all have to go our separate ways.

Ironically, in January you wish you could blink once to make December reappear or that you were halfway through the year already . . .

That’s human beings for you.

If you have not planned thoroughly for these holidays, rather start planning for next December’s holidays now. It is not going to help to complain at the present moment.

Remember January is another month and it will bring different challenges. It’s the time of the year when children will embark on the new academic year.

So, please don’t blow the funds you have in the bank on having a good time; there’s still a long road ahead.

This year has brought many changes for South Africans. Jacob Zuma finally resigned as president of the country, which ushered in the ascendence of Cyril Ramaphosa to the presidency. And, of course, Malusi Gigaba was in the headlines for various reasons . . .

Banyana Banyana recently made history when they qualified for the Women’s World Cup for the first time.

We all need a pat on the back for making it this far in a tough year. We also need to enjoy this time, when thousands of people will be flocking to different destinations.

That being said, road safety needs to be one of your highest priorities when you hit the road. So, please buckle up!

Road fatalities are always a major concern and a great headache for traffic officials during this time. Sadly, this time is also one of much heartache for families who lose loved ones on the road.

Please be not the statistic! Yes, some things occur when we least expect it, but one can avoid so by taking precautions and not drinking and driving.

If you will be travelling long distances this season, have a rest when you are tired and ensure your vehicle is in a good, roadworthy condition.

While accidents are just that, it may sometimes be avoided through action from road users. We need to be vigilant in this time and courteous towards other road users, whether it be those in vehicles, on bicycles or pedestrians. We need to respect each other and obey the rules of the road, but, most importantly, we all need to play our part in ensuring we have safe journeys.

This edition marks the final City Vision Lwandle/Nomzamo/Asanda Village edition for 2018 and the offices will close until Monday 7 January 2019. The first edition for the new year will hit the streets on Thursday 17 January.

On behalf of the entire City Vision team, I want to wish all our loyal readers and advertisers a safe and joyous festive season, as well as a safe journey to and from their different destinations. May your time with family and friends be one filled with love, blessings and joyous celebrations.
