A businesswoman from Gugulethu who started from humble beginnings will now represent the province in the 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year Competition. The competition which is sponsored by Sanlam was started in 1988 to give recognition to the vision, innovation, perseverance, drive and commitment of the individuals who run successful small and medium enterprises. Cikizwa Nekile (45) started Indima Recruitment in 2007 in her Gugulethu home. The business offers recruitment for permanent and temporary jobs. It also manages information technology contractors. She said she started her business with a laptop and a cellphone in a one-bedroom house she shared with her aunt and six cousins.“I would work in my pyjamas in winter because I had no space to work,” she said.Nekile said her business has grown bigger since the start. She has since employed three other people. She says the growth is also because of the good relationship they have with their clients.Nekile said clients have different reasons for staying with them and they offer high quality service. She said she would like to show other women that it is possible because they might be starting out like she did but they must not give up on their dreams.“It was not a miracle. “I am where I am today through hard work and commitment and anyone can make it,” she said. She said being one of the finalists will give exposure to her business because not a lot of people know about them. She said it will also help to tell a story of a black female in business. She said finally there is someone that recognises the work that they do and it will help them a lot.“It is going to elevate the way we think when we do business,” said Nekile. She said she will now face off with other entrepreneurs in September where the winners of the different categories will be announced during an awards ceremony in Johannesburg.
