A total of 46 women from the greater Helderberg area received certificates for completing a seven-week skills development course at the Helderberg Development Centre (HDC) in Somerset West.

The graduates were handed their certificates in Home Management at a ceremony on Tuesday 11 June, with Welile Myemane being named the best student of the first semester. The ceremony included a motivational talk by guest speaker Khalimela Menaye, who was the top achiever of the second semester last year.

The application period for the second semester is now open, with selection interviews set to take place at the centre in St James Street at 08:30 on Monday 10 July. Two groups of 12 students will be trained in kitchen skills, laundry, cleaning, money management, life orientation, English and Bible studies over the last two terms of the year. All classes are offered in English.

Interested potential students aged 25 to 50 are welcome to contact the centre for more information on its offerings,

Monday to Thursday from 08:00 to 15:00, and Friday 08:00 to 13:00, on 021 852 5720. The centre will be closed from Friday 14 June to Monday 8 July.

. As a non-profit company, HDC relies on the goodwill of the community, and implores residents to volunteer time as lecturers, donate to the organisation or support its rummage sale on Friday 2 August and Friday 1 November.
