A non profit organisation, HeadsUp (HU), that supports brain injury prevention and a rehabilitation programme that works with high risk groups, public clinics and schools to prevent brain injury held a training workshop at Site B’s Nolungile clinic recently.

The HU rehabilitation programme works to integrate the traumatic brain injury survivors back into their families and communities.

They provide counselling to traumatic brain injury survivors and their families, train care – givers employing the S – Plan approach and educate the public about brain injury.

Furthermore, the programme provides assistance to survivors in application of government disability grant following their brain injury and dysfunctionality and on the other hand assist Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) victims with Road Accident Fund (RAF) Claim’s Management.

Khayelitsha hub trains families to cope with disruptive brain injury behaviours and offer on – going support in the township through support group.

Back in 2016 with the involvement of Social Auxiliary Work (SAW) students the organization was successfully able to penetrate Philippi and Mfuleni.

Last week HU made its bit of brain injury awareness week campaign during this brain injury awareness month.

Brain injury survivors that are the members of HU support group assisted in assembling the paper brain hats that were handed out to audiences in clinics.

The organization is currently funded by Department: Social Development (DSD) only.

If you would like to participate in their programmes visit the at their offices located at 1 Njimba Avenue, Site B in Khayelitsha.

They are open on Mon. – Fri., 08:00 – 16:00; excluding the weekends and public holidays.
